Dear Members of the TC,

Some time has passed and there are some things to tell.

Chronologically:

I got a question about international color coding on stage for sets and curtains.

Some say green is the color for stage right (jardin, left) and red for stage left (cour, right).

Others say blue is the color for stage right.

Do you have a system in your country, and if so, what is it?

Please send it to me, I’ll make an overview of it.

I will join the EduCom in Moscow in April as chair of the TC.

It will be interesting to see how the largest OISTAT commission works.

I’m asked to do a presentation of our work and on our views on education.

I remember our discussion in Belgrade, were actually nobody was very happy with the technical skills of most designers.

If it’s OK with the members of the TC, I will share these thoughts with the EduCom.

Our joint meeting with Opera Europa at the Showtech in Berlin on 17th and 18th of June will NOT be an official invitation.

There will be bargains on hotels, free tickets and meeting rooms, but no food or elaborate program.

There will be a session open to the public on the 18th of June at 10:00 AM.

I will join the next Opera Europa congress in Barcelona in April to draw up a more detailed program.

Meanwhile you can check out their website to see what their technical commission is working on.

This means our first official meeting will be at the OISTAT Congress in Seoul at the WSD2009 in September.

I just had a meeting with SungShul and his colleagues, and we agreed that we will organize a workshop of several days around the old theatre technical trick “Pepper’s Ghost”

New materials an new video possibilities have brought this trick to new live and meaning.

We will be provided with a medium sized theatre with the necessary equipment for the duration of the WSD2009.

There we can experiment with professionals and students from all over the world.

The result will be a showcase based on the Oscar Wilde novel “The Selfish Giant”.

All kind of help and support will be welcome there.

We also planned to do a small display with showcase on the “Technical Invention Prize”.

Please don’t hesitate to share your thoughts on all of this.

Best regards,

Ivo Kersmaekers
