Publication & Communication Commission and Costume Working Group joint meetings, symposium and caftan workshop took place early May in Istanbul, Turkey

The Publication & Communication Commission and the OISTAT Costume Working Group in cooperation with the OISTAT Turkish Centre and Istanbul Moda Academy (IMA) held joint meetings and organized a series of events. At the business meetings, the Publication & Communication Commission presented the latest progress on the Digital Theatre Words and World Scenography projects. The structure and function of the new OISTAT website, proposed by OISTAT Executive Director Wei-Wen Chang, was also discussed at the meeting. In addition to the business sessions, the OISTAT Costume Working Group also co-organized a symposium of “Historical Costumes and Their Reconstruction for Film and Theater” with the OISTAT Turkish Centre and IMA. A total of 12 papers from 8 countries (Turkey, Serbia, Israel, Czech, Brazil, Japan, England, and Greece) were presented at the symposium. During the symposium members of the Turkish delegation took the opportunity to share the Turkish Government’s efforts to preserve traditional handicraft arts by inviting those attending the symposium to visit ISMEK, a training centre for traditional handicraft arts, in Istanbul. In addition, a three-day caftan workshop was held at IMA. At the end of the workshop an exhibition displaying various caftan styles as well as the creativity of OISTAT costume designers and Turkish students was presented.
