Dear Members of the TC,

What an exciting month this was!

The Kick-off meeting of the workshop of the CE norm for “Lifting and load-bearing equipment for stages and other production areas within the entertainment industry” was on 8 and 9 February in Brussels and the CEN Management Centre has accepted the workshop.

Mr. Sonderberg is elected president.

The new business plan was adopted and accepted, I include it here, as well as the minutes.

Because the German DIN organisation has offered to carry some of the costs of the secretariat, the cost for attending this workshop will only be 1000 EUR per firm or organisation.

This will cover membership for the entire duration of the workshop.

At this point there are representatives from seven countries Sweden, Italy, Germany, Austria, Great Britain, Holland and Belgium.

I got some mails from other countries who are interested too, and given the relatively low costs, I’m sure more will join.

It’s important that not only representatives from European countries join, but that we have a worldwide attendance, because the mondial impact the results of this workshop will have.

There is an important task here, for you as TC member to hear around in your country, and promote this workshop to firms or organisations who might be interested to join.

I think it would be good for OISTAT to have a bit of critical mass, and show its interest in participating as an organisation in the work.

Speaking for the Technology Commission, I think this could be one of the projects we can get involved in with the most impact on the industry ever.

Next meeting is on 16th of March in Brussels, further meetings are planned in April in Berlin, 11-13 June in London, 10-13 September in London again, November on the JTSE in Paris, February 2007 in Brussels to discuss the final draft version which will be presented on the ShowTech  19-21June 2007 in Berlin.

I also include the membership registration form here.

Don’t forget: if you join you get access to all the existing European standards AND to the new to make EU standard.

I’ve met Reinhold Daberto, chair of the Architectural Commission again, and we talked about  several items our commissions have common interest in.

Unfortunaly, at the moment there is no possibility to have a joint meeting, due to practical and financial problems.

Never the less, it’s interesting to discuss these items in our own commissions.

I will join the AC on their annual meeting in Belgium, please sent me your thoughts about the matter before June.

There was no reaction to my call in my last newsletter to do so.

There were some reactions about our possible project about risk assessment for theatre productions.

In order to get the project started, can you please send me an overview of how you do it in your country.

IMPORTAND: “We don’t care about it” is an interesting answer to!

From today you can also read these newsletters on the OISTAT website.

I must apologise for the delay the development of our website is suffering from, but all I can say it not very user friendly to a layman like me.

At least we have made a start.

If you want to contribute to the website, you can ask for a login at password at the secretariat@oistat.org.

Best Regards,

Ivo Kersmaekers
