OISTAT is an international network of scenographers, theatre architects and technicians, and the newsletter hopes to bring you the latest information about OISTAT’s projects, meetings and activities worldwide. ELECTIONS Matters

1. Scenography Commission has Elected New Chairs
The election of Scenography Commission (SC) Chair was held during the annual meeting in Tel Aviv, Israel. After two runs of tied voting to the two top candidates and a long discussion, the proposal to split the term of chair in two was voted in and accepted by the Commission. SungChul Kim from Korean Theatre Artist Association will be chair of SC until WSD in 2009 and Reija Hirvikoski from Finnish OISTAT Centre will be chair from 2009 through the PQ in 2011. 2. History & Theory Commission Forms a New Commission Board
Due to the only one official nominee could not attend the meeting and she was new and unknown to most of the delegates, the Commission decided to elect an interim leadership committee from among those present. The committee, chosen by consensus, was Lilja Blumenfeld from Estonia, Kate Burnett from U.K., and In Jun Kim from Korea.
This committee would steer the commission through the next year leading up to the Prague meeting at which time new elections for a commissioner would be held. For more details

MEETING Reports

1. Costume Working Group met in Antwerp with Fashion Designers
The Costume Working Group met in Antwerp in early March for a symposium on “Costumes and Fashion: Where We Meet.” with famous Belgium fashion designers and costume designer from Amsterdam. More

2. Sound Design Working Group conducted the first virtual OISTAT Meeting
The Sound Design Working Group held the first “virtual OISTAT meeting ”on March 30. Members from the U.S., Hong Kong, Israel, U.K., and Australia were connected via a simple telephone conference call, on the discussion of programming for Scenofest’07 and new project. More

3. Annual Meeting of the OISTAT Executive Committee, Ocean Shores, USA
In April the Executive Committee met at EC member Leon I. Brauner’s villa in Washington, the west coast of the US. The meeting has focused on broader topics and fundamental issues concerning the mission and objective of OISTAT in response to today’s rapid-changing world as well as the future planning of OISTAT. 4. Scenography Commission met in Tel Aviv, Israel and worked with local choreographers in an intensive workshop
ScenoCom meeting hosted by Israeli OISTAT Centre has drawn over 30 delegates from 16 countries. The meeting offered an extraordinary program that included a special lighting and costume design workshop with Israeli dancers and choreographers, a symposium on documenting scenography, exhibitions, local tours and business meetings. 5. History & Theory Commission met in Israel on the theme of “Documenting Scenography”
The History and Theory Commission meeting was in conjunction with a symposium entitled  “Documenting Scenography: History and Practice” at Tel Aviv University, and a visit to the Stage Lighting Museum at Compulite-Danor, of which many OISTAT members had helped with its founder, Dan Redler. More

6. Architecture Commission meeting in Belgium and  the visiting to major Belgium theatres
The ArchCom meeting was intended to stimulate the exchange of opinions between architects and theatre technicians. The Architecture Commission was also invited by BASTT- Belgium OISTAT Centre to visit  theatres with specific characters in Brussels, Antwerp and Ghent and to answer to the local needs. More

7. Education Commission meeting in Yokohama, Japan in conjunction with the World Lighting Fair and with international students’ participation
The EduCom meeting was held in conjunction with the World Light Fair Yokohama. Participants to the meeting included delegates from 15 countries as well as students from Korea, New Zealand, Finland and USA- the first EduCom meeting that ever involved international students’ participation and joint presentations of professors and students in the open sessions. 1. PQ SCENOFEST! 2007
Scenofest is an international festival of Scenography organized by the OISTAT Education Commission in partnership with the Theatre Institute Prague on the occasion of the Prague Quadrennial (PQ) in 2007. •  Student Funding for Scenofest
A page of information has been added to the Scenofest website to help students who want to attend Scenofest but need financial assistance.  It provides ideas, links and applicable funding bodies.  www.scenofest.org then click on “Practical Information”.

2. 7th OISTAT Theatre Architecture Competition

The Architecture Competition is an international theatre competition organized by the Architecture Commission of OISTAT to coincide with the PQ. Click here for the Architecture Competition Brief.

SECRETARIAT and Development News

1.  Secretariat Report
OISTAT has relocated its headquarters to Taipei, Taiwan since January 1st, 2006. In this transitional period, the short-term goal for the Secretariat is to complete all the legal and administrative procedure required by Taiwanese Government, to solidify the foundation for the managerial work, to provide better service and communication for the members and projects, and to plan on mid-term to long-term development scheme of OISTAT. More

2.  Membership Package Online

OISTAT encourages organizations and individuals worldwide whose works support live performance to join its membership. Three categories of OISTAT Membership are available as OISTAT Centres, Individual members, and Associate members. 3.  Associate Membership Opportunity

OISTAT has recently opened its doors to educational institutions and commercial organizations that provide professional education and training, equipment, professional services, and consultation with those architects, artists, and technicians who work in support of live performance to become Associate Members of OISTAT. More

OISTAT Centre Serbia & Montenegro (YUSTAT) has sent out the meeting invitation and further program details about the VI Biennial of Stage Design and OISTAT TC & PCC meeting draft program. It is not too late for registration! Please click here to read more and to download the registration form .

2.  Government Board Meeting in Asia, TBA
