2010 OISTAT Education Commission Meeting and International Symposium on Stage Design Education

Dear Colleagues,

On behalf of Marina Raytchinova, Chair of the OISTAT Education Commission, I formally extend to you our invitation to attend the 2010 meeting of the Education Commission in PR China and in conjunction the China /OISTAT International Symposium on Stage Design Education on the theme: “Contemporary Design Education - Between National Tradition, Innovation and Globalization”

Design education concepts and practices across the world in the limelight of the changing picture of contemporary theatre.

How do growing globalization and interculturalism influence contemporary design education? Do we provide education that responds to the needs of the contemporary theatre practice?

Over three days and based in the venues of the China Central Academy of Drama in Beijing the China/OISTAT Education Commission meeting will provide an excellent forum for the exchange of pedagogical philosophies, focusing on the definitions of national and local traditions in the context of growing international collaboration and intercultural experimentation in design education and theatre practice.
Certain members of the Education Commission as well as educators from China will make formal presentations as part of the symposium.

The Symposium welcomes papers (max 1500 words with 1-3 images if required) and presentation proposals (max.20 min.) on the theme outlined above. Please submit papers and proposals for presentations before October 1st, 2010 to Sun Daqing, Deputy Dean of Department Stage design, sdqstagedesign@163.com, copy to Marina Raytchinova, Education Commission Chair, marinaray@yahoo.com. All papers and presentations will be published in a brochure of the meeting.

The Commission business session will include organizational issues concerning the current and future initiatives of the Commission as well as reports and plans for Scenofest’11.

According to the normal OISTAT practice, delegates are responsible for their own travel arrangements. Meals and accommodation for four nights (November 3rd-6th) will be arranged and covered by the hosts for one official delegate from each OISTAT Centre.

Associate members, individual members and guests are welcome to attend at their own costs: accommodations (550RMB/day/room) and a participation fee of 1000RMB (approximately 100Euro) for local transportation, meals, tickets and materials.

November 3rd is the arrival day with activities scheduled on November 4th, 5th and 6th, with November 7th as the departure day. All delegates attending should fill out the registration form [download]. Please return the form electronically to Sun Daqing, sdqstagedesign@163.com, no later than September 10th, copy to the Commission Chair Marina Raytchinova marinaray@scenofest.org and OISTAT Secretariat secretariat@oistat.org.

A preliminary program of the meeting is attached. A more detailed one will be sent by the Commission Chair.

Simultaneous translation will be provided during the presentations. Besides of the presentations, we also call for papers with 1500 words to be published on the brochure together with the presentations. For official delegates invited by the hosts, the Central Academy of Drama will cover their accommodation, local transporation and  meals for the 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th November.
