Report of Chair Architecture Commission Reinhold Daberto in Toronto 2005-04-16
I took over the chair from Jan Kramer, who retired in 2003 and acted as an interims chair till the meeting in Taiwan.
At the architecture Commission (AC) meeting in Taiwan October
2004 I was elected as chair, Tim Foster and Torsten Nobling will
support the work as vice chairs.
Main Agenda of AC in the past were the Theatre architecture
competitions. AC is now going to prepare the next competition, which
results will be presented in Prague at PQ 2007.
Work for this under the head of competition commitee Tim Foster has already started.
One of the main aims of architecture commission is, to have closer
relationship to architecture schools. We will offer lectures, support
in design work from the members of AC to schools.
Another target is to give something back to inviting OISTAT centres in AC meetings.
A first example for this was the meeting in Taiwan, where AC organized
a quite successful workshop for students with the theme of designing a
theatre of 400 seats.
Another way is to have lectures at the congresses, which sometimes are
in parallel to meetings of AC. Members of AC did so in Yokohama during
world light fair 2002 and will do so during the ongoing congress in
Toronto.
AC will try to get in touch with other commissions, like Technical commission, since there are common working fields.
In the past AC tried to publish articles on theatre design and related
topics. Since costs for printing are quite high, AC decided to use in
the future the new webside for communication between members and
interested parties. This allows cheaper and quicker results.
For the coming years AC is trying to intensify contacts and have more relevant working results.
