Former President of OISTAT Dr. Helmut Großer passed away on May 23rd, 2010—a sad message from DTHG.

Dear friends and colleagues,

I have the sad obligation to inform you that Helmut Großer passed away on Sunday, May 23, 2010, at the age of 83. He served as President of OISTAT from 1979 to 1997 for many years with lots of changes and developments in OISTAT and in the world; changes within OISTAT that he actively promoted in order to realize his vision of an international theatre community. We all have known him as a wise diplomat and as a great friend and colleague.

Most of you know that Helmut never recovered from the loss of his beloved wife Rosemary and had not taken part in DTHG and OISTAT events for several years. But he was always one of us, as his achievements for DTHG, OISTAT and BTR have changed our way of looking at theatre and at the world. Technicians and artists working for a common goal, beyond political borders and disagreements, and thus also contributing to a more peaceful world, these were the main goals of Helmut’s career and voluntary engagement.

I received the sad news on my way to Gelsenkirchen, where the annual meeting of DTHG takes place. We commemorated Helmut at the annual conference of DTHG. Documents with more information on his life and achievements will be assembled to honor him lately, but for those who knew him and always asked about his state of health should be informed.

With all my regards,

Karin Winkelsesser
Former President of DTHG
