USERSGUIDE FOR THE ’MEMBERS ONLY’ PART OF THE OISTAT WEBSITE

LOGIN

To enter the 'members only' part of this website you have to be a member of one of the commissions, working groups or projects of OISTAT. To obtain a login-name and password you can get in touch with the Secretariat.

GENERAL

The new website is a so called CONTENT MANAGEMENT SYSTEM. This means that everyone who is authorised  to login is able to add information in certain parts through a regular browser (after login).

The website can be seen by almost all browsers. For MAC-users internet explorer is no option.

WORKING IN THE WEBSITE

To be able to work in the website you need to have a loginname and password, as a member of a commission or working group or project you can ask the login an password to the Secretariat. They will provide this and further details.

SPECIFICATIONS TO WORK IN THE WEBSITE

PC / WINDOW-users can work in the website from any browser.

MAC-users should best work in the website in the browser FIREFOX of MOZILLA.

PUBLISHING DOCUMENTS IN THE MEMBERS ONLY PART

Everything you publish in the ‘members only’ part  (or in other parts) of the website will appear immediately, but only for the people who are logged in. Other visitors won’t see this part at all.

STEP 1

LOGIN:  Click on the homepage on one of the menuitems. then you’re on a page with content and with the mainmenu right on top. Click on the white circle in this menu just under the image of the ‘half woman’.

You see a popup for login in: enter your login name and password and click on login.

STEP 2    

After login in, you go pass the homepage again by clicking on one of the menuitems.

MEMBERS ONLY PART: You see in the main menu right on top appear the fourth menu-item ‘MEMBERS ONLY’. Click on it and on the right column, you will see the menu-items for ‘members only’. You’ll be able to read all the information that is under the items, but will only be able to add menus or documents for your own section.

STEP 3    

WORKING IN YOUR MEMBERS ONLY PART: click on your members only-menu. This should be the menu where you can see the icon with a pencil before the name of the menu.
Then you see above left in the website a submenu: click for instance on the menu-item forum and under this menu the forum will appear. Take part in the forum by following the instructions which are there.

FORUM: you will be able to take part in a ongoing discussion by replying to an existing topic or you can start a new one.
You can also use the forum as a simple way to publish text: start a new topic and ennter by copy and paste your text in the forum. It will be published immediately.

ATTENTION: you won’t be able to change anything in the text you published in the forum! If you want to be able to that, go to STEP 4.

STEP 4    

MAKING NEW MENUITEMS AND PUBLISHING DOCUMENTS: under the menu where you see the name ‘forum’ you see also a the name ‘add menu item’: click on the word and you will be able to make a new menu-item with a document attached to it.

ADDING A MENU-ITEM
After clicking you will see a small popup: fill in the name for the menu – for instance the name or the subject of the text and perhaps your own name- click on ok and wait some seconds (depending on the speed of your internetconnection). Then you will see the menu-item appear.
Click on the new created menu item. Under the item and the button ‘add menu item’ you will see the button ‘add document’.

ADDING A DOCUMENT
Click on the 'icon' left of the text ‘add document’, after a few seconds the popup of the cms-system will appear: now you’re in the documenteditor (you can click on the tab above to bring yourself to the 'documenteditor'). Wait until everything is loaded. You can type a document yourself or you can add a complete document by copying and paste.
For mac-users it is necessary to first put your document in the programm texteditor, and then paste in hte documenteditor of the website.

GIVING THE DOCUMENT A NAME
Don’t forget to give your document a name: preferably the same name as the menu-item. This is important to be able to find your document back in the document folder.

LAY OUT OF THE DOCUMENT

After having the document on screen in the documenteditor you can edit it. Just under where you fill in the name of the document you see a possiblity to make headers in your document. Click on it and you see that you have 5 options: option 1 is the biggest header, option 4 the smallest.
Go first to the text you want to be a header, put the cursor there on it and then click on header 1, 2 etc. (kop 1, 2 etc.).The text is marked as header and will appear later on in the predetermined colors of the website.

SAVING THE DOCUMENT
On the right side of where you entered the documentname you see the button ‘save document’ .Do it! AND DON’T FORGET IT: YOUR DOCUMENT WILL BE LOST IF YOU DON’T.

CHECKING THE DOCUMENT

Go back to the website itself (without login out). Click on on the button ‘renewing’ or refresh’ or 'reload' of your browser. Then you see the document appear as IT IS PUBLISHED ON THE WEBSITE. If you want to make changes, click on the icon of ‘edit this document’ in the document and make adaptations. Again don’t forget to save your document.

Additional Functions

INSERTING IMAGES

You locate the cursor on where you want to insert an image in the text, and click the 'add media from media library' button on the tool bar. The button appears as a painting. The system automatically opens the media library tab. Move to and check the file you want and click in the insert column on the green checkmark next to the version you want to insert.

UPLOAD IMAGES
You can upload images to the media library for your use. The images will be saved in the file folder assigned to your commission. The upload button appears as an arrow pointing upward.

INSERTING DOWNLOADS
Make a file available for download is the same process as inserting an images, but instead you insert a 'document' from the media library.

INSERTING AN EXTERNAL HYPERLINK
First you select the text that you want to create a link, and click the insert link icon (this appears as the link of a chain) in the toolbar. A dialog is displayed. You choose the link type as external link, and fill in the additional fields and components:
-The clickable text in document is initially taken from whatever you had selected when you decided to insert a link.
-The url is the address of the web page you are linking to.
-With open in you specify whether a new window is to be opened when a visitor clicks the link.
