The Publication and Communication Commission (PCC) is a commission which mainly supports other commissions in their work. This work of the PCC is done by two working groups: the website working group (WWG) and the publication working group (PWG).
The WWG, deals with the internal and external communication of OISTAT through the website. To do this better the WWG developed the current website for OISTAT (www.oistat.org). With the website the WWG is able to support other commissions, working groups or projects more accurate then before.
The WWG meeting in Amsterdam (2005)
In this time of internet a decent website is indispensable for an international organization to communicate with its worldwide members and inform all interested professionals and students about the activities and projects. Started by Louis Janssen in 1997, our OISTAT website grew and Gustaf Kull took over as webmaster to take care of further development and content.
During a PCC meeting at the PQ'03, the (WWG) was formed, to investigate other possibilities of website structure and layout. This leaded to the current website, which is made in a content management system. This system enables the commissions, working groups and projects to publish information on the website themselves.
As it ought to be for an international workgroup, their six members come from all over the world: Jennifer Walker from Canada, Ya-Chen (Jane) Liu from Taiwan, Gustaf Kull from Sweden, Eric de Ruijter from the Netherlands, Chris Van Goethem and Jerome Maeckelbergh, both from Belgium.
The other working group is devoted to publications. For instance the OISTAT-brochure is made by a member of this working group. Furhermore the PWG can assist others with developing their publications.
The PCC has edited a multi-language dictionary for theatre professionals, theatre words. Up to now three volumes, including a total of 25 languages, have been published. English, French and German are included in all volumes, with the languages of the member countries added to individual volumes. The dictionary is in an ongoing project of OISTAT.
Furthermore there is an informal meeting / contact with some European editors of theatre magazines. The editors of BTR, Proscenium, Editions AS and Zichtlijnen meet about twice a year to share experiences, to exchange articles and find ways to cooperate further. For instance on the latest JTSE in Paris, the editors organised lectures about newly built theatres in their countries.
